ManilART – Asia's Hottest Contemporary Art Fair

Both a gathering and celebration of novel inspirations, fresh points of view, and new contacts in Philippine art, ManilART 2012, takes place on October 2 to 6, 2012 at a larger scale than previous years. As with the successful run of ManilART in 2011, the SMX Convention Center, this year, plays host to 40 participating galleries, showcasing works that will introduce the uninitiated to the multifaceted style of Filipino artists as well as reinforce, more than ever, the art enthusiast's and collector's support for local talent.
ManilART 2012 is organized by the Bonafide Art Galleries Organization (BAGO), along with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), to be presented across 2,000 square meters of exhibition space. BAGO is a non-stock, non-profit group of 20 art galleries that aim to promote Filipino visual art both locally and abroad. For this year's event, the spotlight is turned on the best and most distinct examples of Philippine contemporary art, displaying the culture from which they are drawn, perspectives and ambitions, and their value in the global art community.

ManilART 2012 – Asia's Hottest Contemporary Art Fair

The stage for ManilART 12 is the SMX Convention Center, the country's largest venue for key industry events. SMX is located along Macapagal Avenue in Pasay City, indeed a short walk from SM Mall of Asia, itself a world-class destination.
ManilART 12's major events include:

• Gala Opening Night
  This marks official opening of the art fair and is be strictly by-invitation-only. Top-notch Filipino performers will render entertainment, and major movers and shakers in Manila will grace the evening.


• Art Lectures
  A series of art lectures and seminars covering various topics will be held twice daily, supervised by experts in specific fields of the visual arts. Video monitors and audio speakers are set up all over the venue, so all visitors can tune in to what is being discussed in the lecture area.


• Art Auction
  The auction will be conducted by a professional auctioneer, featuring 40 outstanding works by Filipino contemporary artists.

ManilART 2012 - Events

Bloggers' Walking Tour
October 3, Wednesday at 4 pm
ManilART 2012's Walking Tour on October. 3 will take bloggers through key artworks from the participating galleries. The guided tour will reveal unique insights onto each featured piece, allowing a candid discussion between gallery curators or even the artists themselves and the bloggers.
The Jeepney Art Auction
October 3, Wednesday at 4 pm to 6 pm
In partnership with the Jeepney Arts Festival, ManilART 2012 will auction as many as 50 artworks in various media featuring redesigns and reinterpretations of the iconic Philippine passenger jeepney. Taking place on October 3rd at the SMX, the auction is a continuation of the Jeepney Arts Festival's celebration of Filipino ingenuity and craftsmanship.
International Night
October 4, Thursday
The International Night will gather trade attaches, ambassadors and other diplomats, and the most celebrated artists in the Philippines today. Personalities influential in the art industry are also expected to attend this exclusive event.
